What To Expect

Tipu Sultan Fort and Palace - Bangalore KR Market

Your guide will accompany you to Bangalore Palace, built by a Wodeyar king in the Tudor style. Ogle Gothic windows, foiled windows, battlements and turrets. Walk through picturesque gardens leading to the main entrance, and view exquisite floral motifs, cornices and relief paintings that decorate the elegant palace walls and ceilings. Bangalore Palace
Bangalore Fort, located opposite the city market in Bangalore. Initially constructed by Kempe Gowda – Bangalore’s founder – in 1537, the fort was rebuilt and expanded by Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan, the emperor of Mysore, in the 18th century. As you privately tour Bangalore Fort with your guide, hear anecdotes about its historical role in the sultan’s resistance to British rule. Admire the Islamic style of the gate's intricately carved arches, and glimpse the well-preserved 16th-century Ganapathi Temple within its courtyard, where Hindu devotees pay homage to Lord

Bangalore Fort
Learn about the historical significance of this 18th-century defense. Originally built in 1537 as a mud fort by the founder of Bangalore. Later it was replaced with a stone fort, but damaged during an Anglo-Mysore war in 1791. Nevertheless, Bangalore Fort still remains a good example of 18th-century military fortification.

The royal history of Bangalore

Had a wonderful tour with our driver Ranjith and mr. Srinivas as the experienced tour guide. They drove us to sultan Tipu’s summer residence, the Bangalore Fort and of course Bangalore palace. Stopping at or pointing out places of interest along the way. Mr. Srinivas is knowledgable and has a wonderful way of sharing his love for the city he grew up in. He spoke good English too. So definitely recommend this tour.

The tour was great. The tour guide was not only knowledgeable about the palaces but he gave us a city history as well all in the same tour. I would highly recommend it.
The guide is a really nice guy. Palaces are so-so.

We had been driven around in a clean private car with a driver and the guide --the overall experience was very pleasant. The guide is a really nice guy sharing his views on the Indian values and the way of life -- so it was a really interesting insight into Indian society.
As for the attractions as such... that was a very so-so experience.
The places are not well kept. The Fort is just a piece of the wall. No entry inside or anything.
The Palace of local rajas is under repairs and there is no access to most of the rooms.
If you are accustomed to the standards of tours at the European palaces and monuments -- you'd be disappointed.
But as a local experience -- it still counts as interesting.
This palace takes you back in time

This palace was a delightful mix of English style in exterior design and Indian detail in the interior. The beautiful collection of artefacts gave an insight into how lives were led in this amazing palace. Audio guides through out provided additional background information to extend your knowledge. I was concerned from a long term conservation perspective that what seemed to be original photos and illustrations were too accessible (on exterior verandah) and would deteriorate in time but were nevertheless appreciative of the opportunity to view them. I also appreciated one of the officers who allowed me into his office to see some incredible photos and who recommended I travel to Mysore to see the new palace which I did and it was even more amazing. A wonderful tour steeped in history.
A bygone age

This is quite an expensive ticket even for Indians but worth it as there's lots to see and theres still some of the opulence of a bygone era. Also a good selection of various art work and photos of past Maharajah's and their families. They were about to renovate the Billiard room when we visited. For those that don't approve of hunting there's some trophies you may not want to see but this is how they lived.

Hunting was part of the lifestyle and it didn't seem to occur to them that fur and tusks were better worn by the owners! Or that they were destroying our planet.

The formal gardens are also in the process of being restored. Lovely greenhouse that would make a super cafe/gift shop.
